I have been noticed and not I have been stitched and sewed whole I have been here and there I have been nowhere at all I have been knowing you well I have been feeling the sea I have been knowing you well I have been driftwood on the shore I have been wretched, oh without well I am here for you now and these callouses of mine watch your hands from afar pickling roses and flies who'd kill my words or they'd just not fall away a black sea in our mosque where the drowned call and pray who'd clean my eyes or they'd just not simply see a white mosque in our brine a crowned jewel full of pity who kills my words for them to melt in and fall out

Helm

The three members of saraph, photographed in black and white

The album

Helm is the forthcoming seven-track album by saraph, a musical project seeking to explore folk music and beyond through intricate, interwoven acoustic compositions; it follows the trail of sounds where East and West, the new and the ancient, light and darkness, and diverse languages and tonal approaches merge into one another.

A monochrome photograph of flames

Saraph is a musical project born in Ankara. It initially emerged as a Brit-folk-inspired solo act by Serim Tağar, characterized by finger-picking guitar techniques and its quiet, evocative mood. While releasing its debut album, Sadaf Bazaar, the record preserved and integrated the very textures and depth of the East and Anatolia, doing so sometimes consciously and at other times instinctively.

As Sadaf Bazaar approaches its third anniversary, the project is preparing a second LP—a journey made of over a year of shared dreams and hard work alongside Hazel Kılınç and Cihan Akün—where the visual and the auditory elements intertwine and melt into each other.

The whole project is elevated by Cihan Akün’s exquisitely crafted guitar compositions and performances, which is in search of the meeting point where technical precision and raw emotion reach their respective zeniths;
and by Hazel Kılınç’s curation—drawing from imagery that blurs the line between fantasy and reality to capture the essence of the world, and treating these images as the visual counterparts to the audio compositions.

Leveraging the diversity and expanded scope gained both quantitatively and qualitatively, the project aims to produce a tangible, hybrid creation—combining a photobook and a music album—upon the completion of the new record.

Prior to finalizing the album recordings, they undertook an album pre-listening tour in September, performing four concerts across three different cities, playing the whole album from the beginning to the end with the accompaniment of the Video-work specifically created for the tour by Hazel Kılınç.
